Frederic Sackrider Remington was a writer and a sculptor in addition to his work as a painter.

He was born in New York state to a prominent family.

He studied art at Yale University's School of fine arts in New Haven Connecticut.

He went on to become one of the most famous artists of the old American West.

He died of appendicitis in 1909 at the age of 48.
